News - DU Session 1, EMO Invitational & DU Session 2

Last weekend's training was an excellent days work - good job to all who turned up and ran hard. Full notes on what we covered can be found on email and on the Files section of the DU Google Group homepage.

We're off to Loughborough for the EMO Invitational to rub shoulders with the best of the UK at th end of Febraury. If you fancy an early season run please get in touch and thro your name in the ring. Flights are currently around €105 (Dublin - EMA, Friday to Sunday) or less depedning on when you need to return. Finally, the second training session of the season will take place on Sunday Feb 14th. The venue is TBC but it will run from 12 until 2:30pm, as session 1 did. Please mark the date down, and assure the ladies you'll be free later in the day.

Inroductory Session 1!

Hello all.
Next Sunday will see us take to the training pitch for the first time. It will be a 2 and a half hour long session from 12 midday until 2:30pm and will take place in Gonzaga. The main aim of the session will be introduce the leaders of the team and to start working on a few of our basic structures. Please be there on time (i.e. ready to run AT 12) with a light jersey, a dark jersey, lots of water and a couple of discs.

Fitness - This Thursday

Hey Guys,

This weeks fitness will take place in UCD (meeting at the Sports centre) and Santry (meeting inside the track at the finish line) starting @ 7pm. Please be ready to go with boots on (UCD) or runners on (Santry) @ 7pm sharp. Being on time is something we are going to be very strict on all season so no better place to start !

This week we are adding another kilometer so we will all be bashing out a 7km run. Along with this we will be starting our strength work. We are gona try get this out of the way at all of our running sessions but this week with the weather not being ideal if you want to get it out of the way in the comfort of your own home it may be a good idea. It consists of....

Side Plank (Left)
Side Plank (Right)
T - Push ups
Cunches/Sit ups
1 Leg Half Squat (Left)
1 Leg Half squat (Right)
Full Squat
Lunges - 8 per Leg

Each exercise is to be performed for 30 seconds with a 30 second rest between exercises. We will complete 2 Sets with a 2 minute rest between sets.

Graphics and a short explanation of each exercise will be up on the group, we will hopefully have most people on that by tommorrow night but if you have any questions email

Notes on Squats and Lunges:

Please concentrate on your form when completing these for the first few weeks, even if you have done them tons of times before, it's a definite quality over quantity scenario.

Keep your head and chin up, Back straight, toes pointed outwards (Full Squat only)
Push off your heel, not your toes on way back up
NB Dont let your kness pass over your toes

Head up/chin up & Back straight
Large step forward until both knees are @ 90 degrees
Toes point straight ahead
Dont twist body
Dont let knee pass over front foot
keep front foot flat

Fitness this week...

Hi Guys,

As you are now aware this weeks fitness as a group is cancelled due to the freakish amount of snow we are getting which have left the roads and public transport in an absolute jock ! Does that mean we all have a week off ??? Absolutely not ! Pre season work is always difficult and what better time to test your character than your first outing of the year... What we are asking people to do is to go to your local soccer/rugby/GAA pitches, park or other green space and bash out 6km of your finest winter running. Please dont attempt this on roads or footpaths as they will be a nightmare.

In the next few days we will have the first 6 weeks of the fitness plan up here and details about Sundays session.

It begins......

Welcome to the official Dublin Ultimate blog......

In this space we will be keeping you informed of the general goings on at the club and keep you posted on club events.

We are starting our pre-season fitness work this thursday @ 7pm in UCD & Morton Stadium Santry, all details for these sessions will be made available here for those who cannot make the sessions but still want to participate.

Sunday also sees the clubs first training session.... DU sessions wont start in earnest till the end of March so this will act as a taster session to give people a better idea of what we are about.
